In 2024, Bulgaria was among the EU countries with the lowest share of internet users who watched television or videos online, according to data released by Eurostat on Thursday.

Across the EU, watching TV or videos online was the most popular cultural activity online, followed by reading news websites, newspapers or magazines (70%), listening to or downloading music (65%), and playing or downloading games (34%).

The highest proportions of internet users watching TV or videos online were recorded in the Netherlands and Finland (both 96%), and Cyprus (94%). The lowest were observed in Romania (44%), Bulgaria (55%), and Slovakia (63%).

As for reading news online, the highest shares were seen in Czechia (91%), Finland (90%), and Cyprus (89%), while the lowest were reported in Romania (50%), France (56%), and Italy (62%).

The data comes from the EU survey on the use of information and communications technology in households and by individuals. Data refers to all individuals in the EU aged 16 to 74 who used internet in the 3 months before the survey.
