Speaking at a Bulgaria-Turkiye heritage forum in Sofia on Monday, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport and Communications Grozdan Karadjov underscored the role of cultural diplomacy in connecting the two neighbours. “Culture is not a museum but a living organism in which every legend and every dance holds a memory and an inspiration,” Karadjov said. He noted that ancient archaeological sites are the link between Bulgaria’s and Turkiye’s common past and their common future.
Karadjov took part in a Sofia forum titled “Diplomacy of Wonders – The Most Ancient Wonders of Bulgaria and Turkiye,” organized by the Turkish Embassy and the Cultural Heritage Society, which is the Bulgarian member of the European heritage preservation organization Europa Nostra. The event was also attended by Turkish Ambassador in Sofia Mehmet Sait Uyanik, Culture Minister Marian Bachev, Cultural Heritage Society Chair Slavka Bozukova, Grand Mufti of Muslims in Bulgaria Mustafa Hadzhi, MPs, ambassadors, diplomats, scientists and representatives of various organizations.
The Deputy PM went on to say that transport links between the two countries contribute substantially to the cultural connectivity between them. In recent years, Bulgaria and Turkiye have been working intensively to upgrade their rail links, facilitate cross-border passage and connect through ferry services.
