More than BGN 86 million will be invested in the development of the dual education system in Bulgaria, the Ministry of Education and Science announced in a press release on Thursday. The measure, which aims to strengthen the link between education and labour market needs, is being implemented through a new procedure supporting dual education under Programme Education.
Vocational high schools and schools with vocational classes are eligible to apply for funding for projects that support the organization of dual education, as well as additional vocational training for students. The goal is to equip students with new knowledge and skills essential for successful career development.
Municipalities and public-benefit non-profit legal entities that are stakeholders in the national skills system are also eligible to implement projects. Funding will support training programmes for teachers and mentors to enhance their key and professional competencies, thereby improving the overall quality of dual education.
Initiatives may also include formats for career guidance and information campaigns aimed at increasing youth interest in vocational education. Additionally, the creation of educational materials tailored to labour market dynamics will be supported.
Project partners may include Regional Education Departments, public-benefit non-profit organizations with proven experience in education and work with target groups, municipalities, nationally representative employer and trade union organizations, and their respective branches.
The deadline for submitting project proposals is July 28, 2025.
According to the Ministry of Education and Science, the large-scale initiative aims to support improvements in the quality, practicality, and effectiveness of vocational education to better align with the economy’s needs and regional specificities.
