site.btaMECh to Support No-Confidence Motion Initiated by Velichie, Not by Vazrazhdane

Speaking to reporters in the lobby of Parliament on Friday, Morality, Unity, Honour (MECh) Chair Radostin Vasilev said that his party has decided to support a no-confidence vote submitted by Velichie, as there had been a gentleman’s agreement between Vazrazhdane and Velichie: first, a no-confidence vote would be submitted by Vazrazhdane, then by MECh, and the third by Velichie.
Earlier on Friday, Vazrazhdane MP Tsoncho Ganev said that Vasilev’s MPs had not responded to an invitation for a meeting with Vazrazhdane to discuss their no-confidence motion, which targets the government’s fiscal policy.
According to MECh’s parliamentary group, Vazrazhdane’s chosen topic was not appropriate, which is why they declined to attend talks.
Later in May, Velichie is expected to share with MECh their reasoning behind their no-confidence motion, which focuses on environmental issues and illegal or semi-regulated waste dumps.
Vasilev added that MECh has initiated talks with Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB), and will soon speak with Democracy, Rights and Freedoms, about submitting a future no-confidence motion against the government over “domestic policy failures”, specifically the performance of Interior Minister Daniel Mitov.
After Velichie’s motion and the release of the convergence report [by the European Commission and the European Central Bank for Bulgaria’s future eurozone membership], MECh will decide what the next no-confidence motion should focus on to ensure support from CC-DB.
“I firmly believe that the topics must be very timely and well-argued,” Vasilev stressed.
