A meeting between the Consul General of Bulgaria in Munich Stefan Ionkov and Bavaria's State Minister for Digital Affairs Fabian Mehring took place at the Consulate General of Bulgaria in Munich, Bulgaria's Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported on Thursday. The high-level visit emphasized the strong and growing partnership between Bulgaria and Bavaria, especially in the strategic area of digitization and information technology.

Ionkov and Mehring reaffirmed their common commitment to deepen bilateral cooperation in the field of digital technologies, stressing that cooperation in this area is not only an economic priority but also a key element of European security.

Mehring shared that he was impressed by the multitude of German investors in Bulgaria and expressed his readiness to support the organization of a joint business-to-business event in Munich initiated by the Consulate General and dedicated to cooperation with Bulgaria in the field of information technology and digitization. Its goal would be to expand and build on the partnerships between Bulgarian and Bavarian companies.

On the agenda were the possibilities for bilateral visits of the Bulgarian Minister of Innovation and Growth to Munich and of the Bavarian Minister to Sofia.

Specific steps to be taken would include organizing a conference with a focus on information technology and digitization partnership between Bulgaria and Bavaria in Munich, exchanging bilateral visits at ministerial level to promote high-level cooperation.

The Consulate General of Bulgaria in Munich added: "During the meeting, Minister Mehring underlined the importance of Bulgaria's political stability and its sustainable pro-European path. The prospect of Bulgaria adopting the euro is also welcomed by German investors as an additional incentive to deepen economic ties. The partnership in the field of information technology is a clear win-win opportunity - boosting innovation, security and economic growth in Bulgaria and Bavaria, the Bavarian Minister stressed."
