E-Government Minister Valentin Mundrov conferred with Deputy Environment Minister Viktor Atanasov and representatives of the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH) to address the recent issues with the BG-ALERT early warning system, the Ministry said in a press release on Wednesday.
Mundrov said that the most effective solution is to grant NIMH direct access to the BG-ALERT system. As E-Government Minister, he committed to facilitating the integration process as quickly as possible. Until then, NIMH can relay urgent information through the Interior Ministry.
Mundrov emphasized the system's role in enabling authorities to inform the public through messages distributed via the Unified Electronic Communication Network, as outlined in the Electronic Government Act.
Participants in the meeting committed to delivering a functioning solution for real-time disaster alerts by the end of next week.
Earlier on Wednesday, Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov has given a 10-day deadline to improve the BG-ALERT early warning system. "Ten days, colleagues, and after that – no excuses," Zhelyazkov ordered at the start of the regular government meeting on Wednesday.
Also on Wednesday, acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov has sent a letter to Interior Minister Daniel Mitov and Chief Commissioner Alexander Dzhartov, head of the General Directorate for Fire Safety and Population Protection, calling for an inspection of the BG-ALERT system.
