Nearly 6,000 contraband vape cigarettes were discovered by customs officers during a shipment inspection in Sofia, said the Customs agency on Monday.
On April 16,, customs inspectors carried out an operation in a warehouse of a courier company in the city of Sofia. The inspection identified a number of boxes with factory-sealed electronic vape cigarettes prepared for distribution by individuals throughout the country. The confiscated contraband electronic devices numbered a total of 5,989 pieces, each 20 ml. and containing 50 mg/ml. nicotine. This is the largest quantity of electronic cigarettes found within a single inspection by customs officers. The Sofia District Prosecutor's Office has been notified of the case.
In the period between January 1 and March 31, after inspections by the customs officers of the Sofia Customs, over 27,000 electronic vape cigarettes were confiscated. Ten pre-trial proceedings have been initiated for crimes committed under the Criminal Code, as well as six administrative criminal proceedings.
