Bulgaria welcomes the announcement of the launch of the second phase of the Comprehensive Plan to End the Gaza Conflict, proposed by US President Donald Trump and supported by United Nations Security Council Resolution 2803, the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry said here on Saturday.
The establishment of the Gaza Peace Council, the Executive Board, as well as the appointment of a National Committee for the Administration of Gaza composed of Palestinian technocrats, are important steps towards stabilising the situation and launching the reconstruction of the Palestinian enclave, the statement said.
Bulgaria underlined the importance of the full implementation of all elements of the Plan, including the disarmament of Hamas, the provision of humanitarian assistance to all civilians in need, and the reconstruction and long-term development of Gaza.
Former Bulgarian Minister of Foreign Affairs Nickolay Mladenov has been appointed High Representative of the Gaza Peace Council and a member of the Executive Board. Mladenov is an experienced diplomat with extensive expertise in the Middle East and enjoys the trust of all parties to the conflict and of international mediators, having previously served as UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process.
Bulgaria expressed support for the implementation of the Comprehensive Plan and readiness to contribute at national level, if required.
This country will continue to support international efforts aimed at achieving lasting peace and security in the Middle East and is prepared to discuss a constructive role within the framework of the new initiative, the statement added.
