Italy's National Choreographic Center (CCN)/Aterballetto will stage the second edition of Italia Danza in Sofia on April 27, the Italian Embassy said on Monday. The event is part of the Made in Italy Day, which celebrates Italian creativity, quality and innovation.

The event is organized by the Italian Embassy and the Italian Cultural Institute in Sofia in partnership with Sofia Municipality and the Regional History Museum. Admission to the three performances at 4.30 pm, 5.45 pm and 7 pm is free after registration at iicsofia@esteri.it. The venue is the Largo in Sofia's Independence Square.

The Italia Danza project represents the country in places symbolic for Italian culture worldwide, such as Italian Cultural Institutes, embassies and diplomatic representations, through site-specific performances. They are specially designed to be staged in buildings, halls and complexes or in small urban or historically significant spaces.

The performance is made up of four contemporary micro-dances - Eppur si muove; Near Life Experience; An Echo, a Wave; and A Gig - which involve Italian and foreign choreographers. The project transcends the classical dynamics of the stage and removes the distance between spectator and performer.

The Aterballetto company, founded in 1977, was established as the National Choreographic Center in 2022 and is the country's most important dance art centre.

The project is realized through the General Directorate for Public and Cultural Diplomacy of Italy's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, with support from the Emilia-Romagna Region and the City of Reggio Emilia.
