The weather is suitable for mountain tourism on Tuesday - it is clear, quiet and sunny, Asya Dzhambazova of the Mountain Rescue Service told BTA.

Temperatures are above freezing. Even on Mount Botev, the highest peak in the Balkan Mountains, the temperature in the morning was 5C.

Still, tourists should be careful because there is an avalanche risk on some slopes in the mountains, Dzhambazova advised. She recommends using winter routes for hiking and people should take into account that the day is very short and it gets dark early. Visitors to the mountains must wear sunglasses, have sunscreen, and if they ski, put on a mask, as the sun is very dangerous in the mountains in winter, warned Dzhambazova. 

The winter ski season opens today on Vitosha mountain and therefore the rescue service calls on mountain-goers to observe the traffic rules as more people are expected.
