European Commission said that EUR 2.17 billion were paid on Wednesday for the renewal of energy networks in nine EU countries, including Bulgaria. The funds for Bulgaria were in the amount of EUR 197 million, the announcement said.

The funds will help lower-income countries meet their 2030 environmental goals. So far, the EU has provided EUR 9.68 billion to support countries in the energy transition. A total of EUR 4.66 billion have been allocated for this year.

In Bulgaria, projects will be financed to improve the electricity distribution network, to accelerate electrification in transport, for energy storage, for cleaner energy production, for decentralization of energy consumption and production.
