The at-sea phase of the Bulgarian Navy's Triton 2023 exercise with international participation has begun, the Defence Ministry said on Tuesday.
Procedures for detecting, classifying, and disposing of unexploded underwater ordnance and sea mines will be carried out in designated areas until September 29, 2023. Underwater teams will operate on a rotational basis in pre-designated areas.
The exercise is being held for the third consecutive year in Bulgarian territorial waters. Participants from the navies of Bulgaria, Romania, Turkiye, Italy, and the US are honing their tactical-level training in planning and conducting collective diving and mine countermeasures operations. The aim is to improve procedures and implementation of NATO standards when conducting diving and underwater explosive activities, as well as logistical and medical support.
