The first five of upgraded metro buses have recently started to provide service in the 16-million metropolis of Istanbul. They have higher capacity and maneuverability and are more comfortable than the earlier version, according to the Istanbul Electric Tram and Tunnel (IETT) Operations with Greater Istanbul Municipality.
The metrobus stops only at metro stops, it is 25 metres long and has a capacity for 280 passengers.
By the year's end, 47 more metrobuses are expected to join IETT's fleet, bringing to 252 the total number of the mass transit vehicles tailored to navigate the megacity's extremely busy traffic.
Metrobuses are Istanbul's most widely used public transit vehicle. They are manufactured locally and are equipped with intelligent transport systems. The latest model is larger, with passenger information screens and multiple USB charging points, the IETT said.
