Acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov requested and received the resignation of Prosecutor Georgi Videv as Deputy Administrative Head of the Stara Zagora District Prosecutor's Office, the prosecutor's office said Tuesday.
At a meeting with the leadership of the Stara Zagora District Prosecutor's Office Sarafov expressed strong indignation at the serious shortcomings in the work of Prosecutor Videv in determining the measure of procedural enforcement against the accused Georgi Georgiev at a hearing of the Stara Zagora District Court on July 5, 2023 in connection with the assault of an 18-year-old girl.
According to Sarafov, Videv does not have the necessary professional and managerial qualities to hold the post of deputy district prosecutor of Stara Zagora,. On his orders, a team of prosecutors at the Supreme Cassation Prosecutor's Office will carry out a comprehensive review of Videv's work, as well as that of Prosecutor Desislava Parvanova from the Stara Zagora Regional Prosecutor's Office for a period of two years.
Sarafov expects the leadership of the District Prosecutor's Office in Stara Zagora to create the organization and conditions for a full and thorough investigation of the case, as well as for its conclusion in a short time to ensure justice.
Currently, two pre-trial proceedings are being conducted against the alleged defendant Georgiev - for inflicting medium bodily harm and for threatening to commit murder. The District Prosecutor of Stara Zagora, Dicho Atanasov, has been ordered by the Prosecutor's Office, in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior, to provide protection to all witnesses and persons who cooperated in the investigation.
