The amateur Kitka choir at the Bulgarian Rhythms Association won the silver distinction at the World Peace Choral Festival in Vienna, the Melange Bulgaren blog of Bulgarians in Austria said.

Choir conductor Nina Vasileva-Zaneschev was presented the plaquette and special figurine at the closing ceremony following the gala concert at the Golden Hall of the Musikverein on July 23.

Vasileva-Zaneschev succeeded in gathering together the group and begin rehearsals in a matter of days. The enthusiasts include fifteen women and a single man.

They gathered to sing in the city's parks and did so, for up to five hours a day, in spite of the heat and oblivious to their daily chores. The amateur formation undertook to participate in all events of the World Peace Choral Festival which made Vienna a stage for choirs from all over the world from July 20 to 23. In addition to the concerts, workshops were organized under the leadership of Prof. Gerald Wirth, artistic director of the Vienna Boys' Choir.

The choir also sang at the St. Stephen's Cathedral, the concerts at St. Peter’s Church, and those at the UNO-City.

Kitka Choir impressed musical specialists at the fest and Prof. Wirth personally inquired about the tonalities and origin of their songs, Vasileva-Zaneschev said.
