The Parliamentary Committee on Tourism held a meeting on Thursday dedicated to tourism in Bulgaria as seen through the eyes of the Bulgarian media. Guests at the meeting were the Bulgarian National Radio Director General Milen Mitev, Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) Deputy Director General Evgeniya Drumeva, Focus News Agency Editor-in-Chief Petya Kuzeva, Stundrat News Agency Editor-in-Chief Slavka Bozukova, Standart News Agency Deputy Editor-in-Chief Ekaterina Pramatarova, and Petyo Staykov from TV Evropa.

The topic was discussed in the context of the recent events related to the Nova Kakhovka dam in Ukraine and the fake news about pollution in the Bulgarian waters of the Black Sea, with a call by MPs on the media to popularize official data and not scare people unnecessarily. The participating representatives of the Ministry of Tourism said that official information based on data of the Ministry of Environment and Water is published daily on the Tourism Ministry’s website.

During the discussion, media representatives said that popularizing Bulgaria’s good image is the cause that unites them.

BTA Deputy Director General Drumeva said that this year a lot is being said about the fears that appeared after the destruction of the Nova Kakhova dam, but another approach is also possible.

Vazrazhdane MP Tsoncho Ganev highlighted BTA's role and the contribution of its Director General Kiril Valchev in promoting tourism around the world with the opening of the agency's press clubs in many countries and the signing of partnership agreements.

BTA organized three forums on tourism. The conferences were attended by representatives of the Tourism Ministry, the Parliamentary Committee on Tourism, heads of state and supervisory institutions, representatives of local authorities, branch organizations, medical institutions, experts in the field of tourism and public figures.

The first event took place in June 2022 in Varna before the opening of the summer tourist season. The second meeting took place in the first half of November 2022 in Bansko. In mid-May 2023, BTA organized a conference in Burgas.
