The Bulgarian national Olympic taekwondo team won the 25th Balkan Championships held in Dupnitsa, the National Federation said. The Bulgarian athletes claimed an impressive total of 79 medals across all age groups - children (Classes A and B), juniors, cadets, youth, men and women - securing the overall team title.
Friday, the second day of the Balkan Taekwondo Championships, was particularly eventful, especially during the finals featuring Bulgarian competitors. The crowd in the sports hall cheered for every athlete fighting for a gold medal. The taekwondo players took 22 medals in the various age categories.
The top national male and female athletes did not take part as they are currently training in China ahead of the World Championships in Wuxi, China, on October 24-30. Nevertheless, they followed the competition in Dupnitsa's Sports Hall, the federation said.
More than 800 athletes have entered for the Balkan Cup 2025 (G1/E1), which is taking place on the weekend.
