Winners Announced in Student Literary Competition Mottoed "Whosoever saves a single life, saves an entire universe"

The Center for Jewish-Bulgarian Cooperation Alef awarded the winners of the tenth edition of the International Literary Student Contest mottoed "Whosoever saves a single life, saves an entire universe". 

The first prize in the category of Bulgarian authors was awarded to Tsveta Dilovska, a student from Botevgrad, for her short story "The Gates of Salvation". The award was presented to her by Burgas Mayor Dimitar Nikolov. In addition to a cash prize, she will receive the opportunity to participate in a four-day international seminar in Israel this August at the expense of the organizers.

In the category of foreign authors, the first prize went to Laura Bocheva, a student from the Music School in Vienna. The award was presented to her by Vice President Iliana Iotova, who is the patron of the event. 

Participants from Israel and Romania also received prizes.

Elina Mitkova Ilieva was awarded the incentive prize by the Director General of the Bulgarian Telegraph Agency (BTA) Kiril Valchev. She will have the opportunity to do a one-week internship at BTA.

Ana-Maria Borisova received an incentive award of the Bulgarian National Radio (BNR). It was presented to her by BNR Milen Mitev. She gets a chance to do a one-month internship with BNR.

Among the guests at the event were Vice President Iliana Iotova, Burgas Regional Governor prof. Maria Neykova, Mayor of Burgas Dimitar Nikolov, Radostina Nikolova, expert from the Ministry of Education and Science, MP Denitsa Sacheva, Director General of BTA Kiril Valchev and representatives of the Embassies of Israel and Poland. 

At the ceremony, Iliana Iotova said that the participation of young people in such projects sends across messages of repentance and purification. 

Mayor of Burgas Dimitar Nikolov said that the contest has become an emblem of the city because through it young people are provoked to write and read about love and memory, as well as to be friends.  

Alberta Alkalay, founder of the Alef Center  and organizer of the contest, said that in the ten-year history of the contest, 1,700 young people from 12 countries have participated, and this year there were 170 participants from nine countries. 

Alkalay presented certificates and honorary plaques to Vice President Iliana Yotova, Burgas Mayor Nikolov and Israeli Ambassador Yoram Elron as a token of gratitude for their support in the implementation of the initiative.
