Vice President Iliana Iotova opened Tuesday the International Youth Conference entitled "The Salvation of Bulgarian Jews - Possibilities for a behavioural role model for today's youth", held under her patronage.

She said that the conference and the International Youth Literary Festival "Friendship - Meaning and Salvation" that it is part of are the most valuable and meaningful, because they build a bridge between the past and the present. Without this bridge being stable it is impossible to build society's future, she noted.

Iotova highly appreciated the opportunity for young people participating in the festival to network and make friends. Without real friends and a shoulder to lean on, life is harder, she added.

She expressed her admiration for the focus of the activities of the Alef Centre on children and their thinking beyond stereotypes. "It is interesting to hear your interpretation of events from 80 years ago, how you project them to today and how you project them into the future," Iotova said.
