At a time when Europe is facing unprecedented challenges, the legacy of the French Revolution and its ideals of liberty, equality and fraternity remind us that our strength lies in unity. More than ever, we need a shared vision, determination and closer cooperation. President Iliana Iotova said this while addressing guests at the official reception marking the National Day of the French Republic, hosted by the French Embassy in Sofia, the President's Press Secretariat said on Tuesday.
In her remarks, Iotova said that Europe shares responsibility for advancing efforts to achieve peace on the continent, strengthening European security and developing the continent's defence capabilities.
"It is our task to accelerate the energy transition and strengthen the resilience of our infrastructure in order to preserve Europe's prosperity and competitiveness," she said.
The President highlighted the excellent relations between Bulgaria and France, built on a long-standing tradition of friendship, trust and mutual respect. She pointed to cooperation in the areas of security, energy, the economy, education and culture.
"At a time when Europe is writing a new chapter in its history, Bulgaria and France will continue to work side by side to address the challenges of our time, remaining true to the values that unite us," Iotova said.
