The Council of Ministers appointed Deputy Prime Minister Ivo Hristov as Chair of the National Council for Cooperation on Ethnic and Integration Issues under the Council of Ministers, the government press service reported on Friday. The Cabinet also appointed Deputy Prime Minister Atanas Pekanov as Chair of the Advisory Council on the European Green Deal.

The National Council is a coordinating and advisory body that assists the Council of Ministers in developing and implementing state policy on ethnic and integration issues and facilitates cooperation and coordination between state authorities, non-profit legal entities, and Bulgarian citizens belonging to ethnic minorities, and other non-profit legal entities working in the field of interethnic relations and the protection of human rights.

The Advisory Council on the European Green Deal was established to advise and assist the Council of Ministers regarding the implications of the European Green Deal for Bulgaria; aligning national priorities in the areas of energy and climate security, accelerated sustainable economic development, social justice, and the protection, restoration, and adaptation of the environment; changes in legislation related to the Fit for 55 package, and engagement with stakeholders with proven experience and capacity to identify and implement solutions related to the decarbonization of the economy and the achievement of climate neutrality goals; initiating and achieving the reform objectives related to the green component of Bulgaria’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan.
