site.btaKardzhali Prosecution Office Not Notified of Municipal Raid Against Mayor

The District Prosecution Office in Kardzhali Thursday said it was not informed about any procedural actions carried out at the Kardzhali municipal administration in connection with the questioning of Kardzhali Mayor Erol Emin Mumun. Earlier, the mayor had been taken in for questioning at the Regional Directorate of the Interior Ministry in Kardzhali. 

They added that no investigators from the district investigation unit took part in the questioning and that once materials are submitted, they will be reviewed and all legally required actions will be taken. It also said it will propose to the acting Prosecutor General Vanya Stefanova that any further proceedings be assigned to another competent prosecutor, citing public claims of possible bias and the need to ensure objectivity and impartiality.

Earlier, Interior Minister Ivan Demerdzhiev noted that procedural actions in Kardzhali required local prosecutorial cooperation, but a deputy district prosecutor allegedly obstructed them by recusing himself, forcing the case to be escalated to the Plovdiv appellate prosecutor. He claimed there are new indications of interference and urged the Prosecutor General and the Supreme Judicial Council to take action.
