A mass amateur cross-country run was held in Nessebar along part of the Giro d’Italia route. The sporting event brought together residents and visitors of the town in a joint initiative promoting sports and an active lifestyle. The event is part of the programme for the hosting of the first stage of the cycling race, the organizers said on Friday.
Emil Atanasov, one of the organizers, said that the initiative aims to promote physical activity and a healthy lifestyle among people of all ages.
"We encourage people to stay active. The event is non-competitive and focused on the love of sport and movement," he said.
Before the start of the run, an amateur cycling event began from Nessebar’s Old Town.
An opening ceremony for the first stage of the Giro d’Italia will take place in the start zone in Nessebar’s Old Town from 12:30 pm. The official launch of the first stage is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
