North Macedonia's President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova has congratulated Rumen Radev on his victory in the April 19 parliamentary elections, wishing him success and stressing the importance of a regional approach. She noted that North Macedonia is committed to building "friendly and constructive relations" and to fostering understanding around the need for EU enlargement.
Taking a reporter's question after attending a Conference of Presidents and Speakers of Parliaments of the Adriatic & Ionian Initiative, held in Skopje, Siljanovska-Davkova said she had sent Radev a message after the elections and later received a call from him.
"I wished him success and said I believe that such strong support is a guarantee of stability," she told reporters, adding that "Bulgarian citizens likely see him as a stabilizing figure for the country and the nation." This would probably make it easier for him to form a government and carry out his programme. "I am looking forward to arranging a meeting," she noted.
In an interview with Sitel on Thursday evening, Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski also congratulated Radev on his victory, underlining the need for dialogue and good neighborly relations.
In North Macedonia, commentary on the election results in Bulgaria has largely focused on whether they could lead to a shift in Bulgaria’s stance on the country’s path toward EU membership.
