site.btaSofia Mayor: Terminal 3 of Sofia Airport Could Become Symbol of Returning to Bulgaria
The project for the construction of a new Terminal 3 at Vasil Levski Sofia Airport is among the largest infrastructure investments planned in Bulgaria in the coming years. The new terminal should become a symbol of people returning to Bulgaria and of the opportunities for development in the capital, Sofia Mayor Vassil Terziev said in a Facebook post on Friday.
According to him, the project envisages a new terminal covering about 65,000 square metres, which will be connected to Terminal 2 and will have the capacity to serve up to 20 million passengers annually.
The plans also include a new transport hub and improved links with the city. Construction is expected to begin in the coming years and be completed around 2030-2031.
Terziev said the importance of the project goes beyond its scale. He stressed that the more important question is not how many passengers will pass through the terminal, but how many of them will choose to stay and build their future in the country.
In his words, Terminal 3 could become a symbol of a country people return to, as well as of a city that creates real opportunities for the future.
In November 2025, SOF Connect announced the start of the pre-qualification stage in the tender procedure for the design and construction of the new Terminal 3, the forecourt area, a transport centre, and the modernization of the existing Terminal 2 at Vasil Levski Sofia Airport.
