site.btaYes, Bulgaria Co-chairs on Prosecutor General's Resignation: "Heart of Peevski-Borissov Model Has Been Ripped Out"
Speaking at a briefing after the resignation of acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov was announced, Yes, Bulgaria co-chairs Ivaylo Mirchev and Bozhidar Bozhanov said that "the heart of the Peevski-Borissov model has been ripped out, this is an achievement of the people who came out to protest in December 2025."
Mirchev said that "it is clear that the 160 votes needed to dismantle this model are already available. Peevski and Borissov have been disarmed; the next steps from here on are extremely important so that Bulgaria can truly change."
Bozhanov said that the resignation of Sarafov, who was at the heart of this model, is only the first step. "The election of the Inspectorate to the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) is forthcoming, and it will be conducted under new rules designed to ensure that the next judicial authorities are composed of far more honest, competent, and qualified individuals who will not elect another Sarafov, [Ivan] Geshev, or others like them."
"The next Inspectorate to the SJC must conduct an urgent audit of Sarafov’s financial assets and all case files related to election crimes, because during the campaign we learned from the Interior Ministry that the prosecution is protecting vote buyers in an attempt to preserve the Borissov-Peevski-Sarafov triangle intact," Bozhanov added.
Mirchev said that "part of this gang includes the [former] President of the Supreme Administrative Court, Georgi Cholakov, as well as other representatives who must also reconsider whether to continue working against the interests of Bulgarian society. We want them to resign immediately, and audits and investigations to be launched," Mirchev said.
Asked which members of the judiciary should resign, Bozhanov replied, "The first dwarf, Sarafov, has left, all the others must follow suit."
Bozhanov referred to the Eight Dwarfs case, a high-profile scandal involving allegations of influence peddling within the judiciary and the takeover of businesses.
