site.btaGolden Kukerikon Theatre Awards Presented at Ceremony in Sofia
The Golden Kukerikon awards, which have been celebrating excellence in theatre comedy and satire for ten years now, were presented by the Aleko Konstantinov Satirical Theatre in Sofia at a ceremony here on Tuesday evening. The event is traditionally held on April 7, the date on which the theatre’s first performance took place in 1956.
Velika (Great) by the Behind the Canal Small City Theatre received a statuette for Best Production and for Best Actress - Vesela Babinova, for her role as Catherine the Great in Tony McNamara’s play, directed by Stayko Murdjev.
Hercules vs. Augeas by the Sofia Theatre won awards for its director Anton Ugrinov and for Daniel Kukushev for his role of Phileus in the Rising Star category.
Todor Durlyanov won the Golden Kukerikon for his role as Werner Hofmann in Berlin, Berlin, directed by Stoyan Radev at Plovdiv Drama Theatre.
Stefan Mavrodiev received the award for lifetime achievement in the field of satire and humour, named after Georgi Kaloyanchev.
The Satirical Theater is not subject to nominations or awards, but the troupe’s director, Kalin Sarmonov, received a special award on behalf of his colleagues.
The hosts received flower baskets from the Bulgarian News Agency, the National Theatre, the Youth Theatre, and Theatre 199.
