site.btaMultimedia Language Classroom Will Open at Bulgarian Sunday School in Tatarbunary

A multimedia language classroom for studying Bulgarian at the Bulgarian Sunday School Balgarche will be opened with Bulgarian support on May 2 in Tatarbunary, Ukraine, Svetoslav Ivanov, Consul General of Bulgaria in Odesa, told BTA.

“The project has been implemented in accordance with Council of Ministers Decree No. 224 of October 30, 2025, and the Programme for Supporting Organizations of Bulgarian Communities in Albania, Serbia, Kosovo, Moldova, and Ukraine. Within this programme, eight project proposals were approved, with the support of the Consulate General of Bulgaria in Odesa and colleagues from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. One of these was submitted by the Tatarbunary Bulgarian Cultural and Educational Society Rodolyubie, under which the school operates,” Ivanov explained.

“The project aims to preserve and develop Bulgarian culture, including linguistic identity, through the use of modern teaching tools that meet contemporary requirements, and to motivate students of Bulgarian origin to acquire knowledge and maintain their historical ties with their ancestral homeland, Bulgaria. The support is directed toward the activities of the Bulgarian Sunday School, which operates in a mixed-population area, making it particularly important,” Ivanov added.

The Bulgarian Sunday School Balgarche was established in 2014 under the Tatarbunary Bulgarian Cultural and Educational Society Rodolyubie. During the 2016–2017 academic year, the school opened three additional branches in the towns of Tatarbunary and Kiliia, as well as in the village of Novoselivka (Kiliia Raion).

At the Bulgarian Sunday School there are also workshops in folk dance and traditional instruments, folk singing, theatrical folk art, and applied folk arts. The total number of students participating in extracurricular activities reaches 341. The total number of teachers across the branches is 45.

The Bulgarian Sunday School Balgarche is a member of the World Association of Bulgarian Schools Abroad.
