site.btaRegulator Won't Allow Unjustified Increases in Electricity, Heating Prices
The Energy and Water Regulatory Commission (EWRC) said in a statement on Thursday that it will not allow unjustified increases in electricity and thermal energy prices and that it will continue to apply a balanced and conservative approach in order to protect service consumers.
On Thursday, it transpired that heating companies are seeking an increase in the price of thermal energy ranging from 4% to 29% for the upcoming regulatory pricing period from July 1, 2026 to June 30, 2027.
When approving prices, the Commission has a clear regulatory approach toward the pricing requests of energy companies, which in many cases are unjustified, the statement says.
The leading factors for the regulator in price setting are objectively proven economic parameters on the one hand, and on the other - ensuring affordability for consumers. When service prices are unaffordable for consumers, this is not in the interest of the companies themselves, as they fall into financial difficulties and will not be able to operate. For this reason, energy companies should make the necessary efforts to optimize their costs and thus improve their efficiency and market presence.
The Commission will fulfill its regulatory function and will guarantee fair prices for services, which is its legal obligation, the regulator assures.
