site.btaBulgargaz Proposes Reduction in Natural Gas Price for August

Public supplier Bulgargaz is proposing a reduction of around 1% in the price of natural gas for August, with the price expected to reach slightly above EUR 37 per megawatt-hour, excluding fees and taxes.

The proposal has been submitted to the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission. Before the regulator makes a final decision, the application will be discussed at an open meeting. If approved, the new price will take effect from August 1.

At the end of June, the regulator approved a natural gas price for July of EUR 37.70 per megawatt-hour (MWh), excluding access and transmission fees, excise duty, and VAT. This represented an increase of nearly 6% compared with June.

In August, the bulk of natural gas quantities for consumers will come under Bulgaria’s long-term contract with Azerbaijan. However, due to planned maintenance activities, these deliveries will be lower. Bulgargaz plans to secure the required quantities through extraction from the Chiren gas storage facility and imports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) via Greece. Part of these imported volumes will be reinjected into Chiren under the Emergency Plan.

In August, Bulgaria’s gas company does not plan any deliveries of liquefied gas through Turkiye.

The forecast for the fuel price, as well as the submission of the application to the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission, was prepared by the previous management of the gas company, which was replaced a few days ago.

The price of natural gas for August will be approved at the end of this month.
