Bulgartransgaz Executive Director Vladimir Malinov presented the strategic role of the Vertical Gas Corridor for Europe during a strategic conference held within the framework of the Egypt Energy Show (EGYPES) 2026, the company said.

The event is taking place in Cairo under the auspices and in the presence of the President of Egypt, Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. EGYPES is a major energy event for the regions of North Africa and the Eastern Mediterranean, bringing together leading international companies, institutions, and industry leaders. This year’s edition focuses on regional cooperation, energy transition, and sustainable development.

During the panel discussion dedicated to liquefied natural gas (LNG), Vladimir Malinov presented the strategic role of the Vertical Gas Corridor for Europe to leading companies in the gas sector such as ExxonMobil and Chevron, the international company Harbour Energy, among others. Participants in the discussion highlighted the decisive role of the Eastern Mediterranean, which is emerging as a gas hub with several LNG, existing gas fields, and developing ones.

“Gas operators in the region continue to focus their efforts on improving infrastructure in order to ensure access to energy from the Eastern Mediterranean to the main demand centres in Europe. The participation of Bulgartransgaz in the terminal in Alexandroupolis as shareholder, as well as our potential involvement in a new project in the region, is not just an investment but a strategic commitment to our shared regional security and development,” Malinov said.

He also noted the growing role of LNG imports for Europe, stating that in 2025 they accounted for about 43% of the total natural gas imports into the European Union, reaching 160 billion cubic meters.

This infrastructure, which is strategic for Europe and whose implementation was first initiated by Bulgartransgaz, will provide all necessary conditions to guarantee energy security and independence in the region, including for Moldova and Ukraine. “The implementation of the projects on the territory of Bulgaria is proceeding according to schedule and is expected to be put into operation by the end of the current year,” Malinov announced.
