Bulgarian Socialist Party leader Krum Zarkov described the signing of a security agreement with Ukraine as an act of political irresponsibility, the party’s press centre said on Monday. Earlier on Monday, the Government Information Service reported that Prime Minister Andrey Gurov and Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a 10-year bilateral security agreement.

“Tonight, anti-institutional behaviour crossed a new line. A caretaker prime minister, with a sitting parliament in place and twenty days before elections, signed a long-term agreement with Ukraine in the field of security and defence. Surprisingly, without a mandate, without even elementary public debate,” Zarkov said.

“This is an act of supreme political irresponsibility, on which the President, Parliament and political forces will have to take a position. And if the Prime Minister still has any sense of statehood, he should, while still in office, inform his hosts that his signature is conditional upon approval by the Bulgarian National Assembly. Preferably the next one,” the position reads.
