Foreign citizens made 735,200 visits to Bulgaria, up 2% from February 2025, with increases recorded across all monitored trip purposes, according to preliminary data released by the National Statistical Institute (NSI) on Monday. Transit through the country represented 28.2% of all such visits.
Trips by Bulgarian residents abroad totalled 571,500 in February 2026, an increase of 6.2% compared with February 2025, with growth recorded across all monitored travel purposes.
NSI data indicate that at the start of 2026, trips by Bulgarian residents abroad increased by 4.2% compared with January 2025, while visits by foreign citizens to Bulgaria rose by 6.9%.
The highest numbers of trips by Bulgarian residents in February were to Turkiye (131,500), Greece (118,100), Romania (64,600), Serbia (46,600), Germany (33,400), Austria (26,700), North Macedonia (24,200), Italy (21,100), Spain (14,200), and France (13,900).
The largest numbers of visits to Bulgaria were made by citizens of Romania (176,600), Turkiye (150,800), Greece (97,400), Serbia (50,000), North Macedonia (26,600), the United Kingdom (24,200), Germany (24,000), Italy (18,700), Israel (18,400), and Ukraine (18,200).
