The Bulgarian News Agency (BTA), represented by Director General Kiril Valchev, and singer Camellia Todorova signed a partnerhsip agreement at BTA's National Press Club in Sofia on Friday.
Valchev said: "Today, BTA expanded its network of partners to include one of Bulgaria's most remarkable musical performers, Camellia Todorova. The occasion is her upcoming 50th anniversary on stage in 2027, which will be marked by concerts starting this year, the release of an album featuring her songs, and an autobiographical book published by Colibri Publishing House. BTA will serve as the media partner for all these events, providing systematic coverage of each milestone."
Valchev presented the singer with "interesting gifts from BTA's archive". According to the news agency's Reference Directorate, Camellia Todorova's first and biggest success was in 1978 at the second review of jazz orchestras in Sofia's Universiada Hall. "We even found a photograph from November 20, 1978 of her performance there," said Valchev. He added: "The first news item mentioning Todorova is dated June 7, 1980, at the 16th Bulgarian Golden Orpheus Pop Song Festival, reporting that the jury of the International Contest for Performers awarded her the Golden Orpheus Grand Prize."
"Most interestingly, I had planned to organize my career archive this year, and I'm delighted that BTA and I can continue collecting more information for this catalogue, as some items are missing from my personal archive," said Todorova.
She explained: "It is no coincidence that I want to celebrate this 50-year milestone, as it is tied to many memories, hard work, challenges, setbacks and triumphs. At this point in my life, I feel I can present the very best of myself in every aspect. I may not look 20, but I have the energy and experience to perform professionally. This anniversary will be preceded by several educational programmes that I have committed to lead. Having taught for 20 years at New Bulgarian University, I am now pursuing teaching independently."
She said that this year she will take part in "jazz festivals in Bansko, Apollonia and Oreshak. Specifically for Apollonia, this will be my fourth appearance there."
BTA will report on all these events. The agreement also regulates copyright for the photos and videos, which can be used for promotion by all media outlets. A review of BTA's archives shows that over the past ten years there have been more than 160 news items on Camellia Todorova. For instance, in 2015 there was only one, but after establishing a special Culture and Knowledge editorial section named after the LIK magazine, last year alone there were 30 news items, said Valchev.
In 2026, a music album, The Best of Camellia Todorova, featuring 88 of her most popular songs, will be released, alongside an autobiographical book produced in partnership with Colibri Publishing House. The book will chart her professional and personal journey, as well as the cultural context of her era. The launch is scheduled for November 19, 2026.
In 2027, Camellia Todorova's project will continue with a national tour across 15 Bulgarian cities, culminating in a concert in Sofia. That year, the singer will also release a new mini-album featuring six new songs and will film a video for one of the new tracks.
