site.btaSofia Airport to Briefly Close Runway for Repairs, Says Work Unrelated to U.S. Aircraft

The runway at Vasil Levski Sofia Airport will be closed in the early morning hours on Monday and Tuesday for routine repairs to nearby manholes, the airport’s press service told BTA on Sunday.

The maintenance schedule has been coordinated to ensure that no flights are routinely scheduled to arrive or depart during those hours.

The press service stressed that the work is unrelated to the presence of U.S. military aircraft at the airport and is being carried out in line with international airport standards.

Earlier this week, the Ministry of Defence confirmed, in response to media reports, that U.S. Air Force aircraft are stationed at Sofia Vasil Levski Airport.
