An investment project of Smart Solar Technologies AD in Stara Zagora Municipality was ranked second in the Investment Impact Awards 2026 ranking of fDi Intelligence, the Municipality said on Friday.

They said the project, which will be implemented in the Zagore - Elenino Industrial Zone, envisages an investment of EUR 122 million and the creation of over 800 new jobs. Smart Solar Technologies AD, a producer of solar panels, cells and batteries, is part of Smart Energy, one of Europe's leading investment and engineering companies in the renewable energy sector.

With this project Stara Zagora Municipality ranks among the leading investment locations in Western European countries in the category of medium-sized investment projects for 2026, the Municipality said. The Investment Impact Awards will be included for the first time in the fDi Intelligence Ranking, organized by fDi Intelligence, the Financial Times' specialist publication on foreign investment. The new category aims to distinguish the most impressive foreign investment projects in Europe with a potential for significant economic, social and sustainable impact.

In 2025, Stara Zagora Municipality was again included in the fDi Intelligence Ranking, securing second place in the Small European Regions of the Future 2025 - Cost Effectiveness category.
