Bulgaria’s GERB Chair Boyko Borissov said in a video posted on Facebook on Saturday that Europeans have a great understanding of Bulgaria, and the country should use this goodwill to accelerate industrialization and make the economy work faster. Borissov is in the Croatian capital Zagreb to attend the European People’s Party (EPP) Summit.

“We are being noticed, we are performing well, and we are at the table with those who make the decisions. The declarations adopted here help reduce administrative pressure and bureaucracy to a minimum, and create opportunities for large and medium-sized companies to enter a common competitive market with China, the US, and India, which is of huge interest to the EU,” Borissov added.

“Joining the eurozone and the Schengen Area places Bulgaria at the decision-making table and in leadership formats that listen to every country,” he argued.

He highlighted that Bulgaria’s involvement in building vertical corridors from Alexandropoulos to Ukraine and from Thessaloniki through Rupcha, also serving Ukraine, has attracted the interest of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. “They are interested in what Bulgaria is doing – investing in major gas infrastructure with the most powerful compressors,” Borissov said.

“I am very optimistic about working with Germany in the coming months. The European Commission has also done a lot for Bulgaria this year and relies heavily on our country. There has never been any doubt in Europe about GERB’s discipline and loyalty. We are part of the ‘Willing’ Committee, firmly support Ukraine, and participate in military aid,” Borissov commented.

During the EPP Summit in Zagreb, Borissov conferred with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic, and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

The GERB leader also held a meeting with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
