Romanians are divided on the issue of membership in the US President's Board of Peace, according to the latest sociological survey by Avangard, conducted in January and dedicated to foreign policy. According to the published data as reported by Digi24 TV, 44% believe that their country should have joined the initiative, 36% are of the opposite opinion, and 20% do not give a clear answer.
The Board of Peace is part of the US administration's plan to create a larger international body for mediation in global conflicts. It will deal with issues such as strengthening governance, regional relations, reconstruction, attracting investment, financing, and mobilizing capital for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip.
Romania received an invitation to join a week ago. However, President Nicusor Dan did not give a clear answer, announcing that he would thoroughly analyze the possible consequences. He did not attend the World Economic Forum in Davos either, where the Board of Peace was established on January 22.
According to 69% of respondents, Dan should have participated, while 22% are of the opposite opinion.
Only 16% of those surveyed approve of the Romanian President's foreign policy activities; 34% say they are dissatisfied, and 21% say they are very dissatisfied. A quarter take a neutral position.
When it comes to trust in international organizations, 62% say they rather trust NATO, 50% trust the UN, and 50% trust the EU.
In a situation where Romania is attacked by Russia, 60% of respondents believe that NATO would defend the country, while 27% do not think so.
