Police in the Turkish Mediterranean city of Mersin seized 298 kg of cocaine, the country's Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said on social media.
The drug was seized at the port by teams working to prevent international drug trafficking. “The narcotic was found in containers on a ship from Brazil that was listed in the documents as carrying peanuts,” Yerlikaya said.
This is the second anti-trafficking operation in Turkiye this week to end with the seizure of a large quantity of drugs. On January 13, the Gendarmerie in the Aegean coastal city of Izmir seized 1.625 tonnes of precursors that could be used to produce 5.5 million synthetic drug tablets.
