Anti-epidemic measures will be introduced in Varna Region from January 14 to 20 due to the spread of flu and acute respiratory diseases, the Ministry of Health announced on Monday. The proposal by the director of the Regional Health Inspectorate in Varna was discussed at Monday's meeting of the Regional Operational Headquarters for Combating Influenza and Acute Respiratory Diseases and endorsed by Chief State Health Inspector Angel Kunchev.

The measures are to be implemented due to the increase in reported cases of flu in Varna last week, reaching 763. According to the Health Ministry, the total incidence in the region is 239.38 per 10,000 people.

From January 14 to January 20, face-to-face teaching in all schools will be suspended, as will group activities, extracurricular activities, trips, sports festivals, and other events organized by schools. In childcare facilities, mixing of groups and holding joint events will be suspended. Visits to hospitals and specialized institutions providing social services, as well as residential social services for children and adults, will be suspended. Preventive examinations, mandatory immunizations, and re-immunizations are also temporarily suspended. These anti-epidemic measures may change depending on the development of the epidemic situation in the region.

The Health Ministry urged people to wear protective masks in enclosed public places and in public transport, medical facilities, pharmacies, administrative offices, and commercial establishments.
