The Economic and Social Council (ESC) adopted its Activity Plan for 2026, which outlines the main priorities and topics on which the consultative body of employers, trade unions, and civic groups will work over the coming year. These include the challenges facing the labour market and labour shortages; reindustrialization and the development of clean technologies; the integration of Bulgarian industry into European economic and defense value chains; the sustainable management of natural resources; energy and climate policies; digital transformation; the social aspects of artificial intelligence; healthcare; education; and the role of civic participation in decision-making processes.
At the request of the National Assembly, the Economic and Social Council will prepare an analysis on the reproduction of the workforce in professions that support key economic and public sectors, offering expert assessments and recommendations to support long-term employment and human capital policies.
The 2026 plan also envisages the preparation of opinions and analyses on current European and national policies, including economic and social recommendations to Bulgaria, working conditions, tax policy, social protection, and the development of strategic sectors important for sustainable growth.
A significant focus of the ESC’s work remains international cooperation. In 2026, the Council will actively participate in bilateral and multilateral discussions with national economic and social councils, as well as with the European Economic and Social Committee.
