The Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) continues to demonstrate high levels of expertise, stability and reliability, according to the annual analysis of its human resources capacity, prepared by the Legal, Public Procurement and Human Resources Directorate. The analysis, conducted each year in connection with the annual training plan of the BTA School Department, shows that as of November 7, 2025, the average professional experience of BTA staff is 16.43 years – a figure significantly above standards in the media sector. This indicator confirms BTA’s position as an institution that preserves journalistic culture, upholds established professional standards, and guarantees accuracy, reliability and high-quality content.

The high average length of service is key to ensuring stability and preventing sharp declines in content quality, particularly during periods of increased workload – a trend observed over the past two years.

The process of generational renewal at BTA continues. Alongside its strong core of experienced professionals, the agency is undergoing steady rejuvenation: 30% of employees have been at BTA for up to two years. This is the result of expanded teams supporting 24/7 news coverage, as well as the continuing development of the domestic and international correspondent network.

The core of experienced journalists also remains strong: 23.5% of staff have worked at BTA for more than 14 years, ensuring continuity, internal training and mentoring. Over the past four years, the BTA School Department has established itself as a sustainable source of new specialists. For 8% of the agency’s staff, BTA is their first workplace, and 25% of them began as interns.

Nearly 200 pupils and students have taken part in BTA’s internship programmes, with 20% remaining employed at the agency. Throughout 2025, BTA continued to invest in training and mentoring programmes aimed at developing current and future professionals.

The agency’s staff remains balanced: 41% are men and 59% women. Administrative units account for 20% of employees, and technical departments – which maintain systems and infrastructure – for 11%. Journalists and editorial teams continue to constitute the majority.

Based on the analysis, the key priorities for training in 2026 include: workload management, coordination between teams and optimization of work processes; training for mentors and supervisors, especially within the correspondent network, where continuity is often maintained remotely; multimedia skills, including long-term training in video shooting, editing, streaming platforms and new technologies; psychological resilience and teamwork; and stress management and crisis response in a dynamic news environment.
