Bulgarian snowboarder Alexandar Krashniak finished second in the parallel slalom at the Bad Gastein FIS World Cup in Austria, falling 1.6 seconds behind Italy’s Maurizio Barmolini in his first final of the season for the Crystal Globe. Krashniak made a mistake on the steep opening section of the course but advanced impressively through the earlier rounds, defeating Austria’s Andreas Prommegger in the round of 16, Italy’s Aaron March in the quarterfinals, and Germany’s Stefan Baumeister in the semifinals by 0.45 seconds.
In the women’s event, Malena Zamfirova was eliminated in the round of 16 by Japan’s Miki Tsubaki, finishing just 0.22 seconds behind her opponent and ultimately placing tenth overall.
The World Cup continues on Wednesday with the mixed team event featuring Zamfirova and Tervel Zamfirov. The next stops are the competitions in Bansko on January 17 and 18, which will host 127 athletes from 20 countries, including the top stars in parallel snowboarding disciplines.
