There is an adequate supply of all petroleum products in Serbia, the government said following an emergency meeting held to discuss the country's energy situation, Politika reports.

The ministers discussed the situation in the energy sector and ways to maintain stable supplies of petroleum products on the market, according to a statement sent to the media by the government's press service.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic met on Sunday with the team responsible for the country's energy stability and security. He said that all current challenges had been discussed and important conclusions reached in order to protect Serbia’s interests and ensure safe and reliable supplies for Serbian citizens and the economy.

Following the meeting, Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic said that a response from the United States regarding the operations of the Serbian oil company NIS is expected on Monday or Tuesday. She added that the public should not worry and that there will be sufficient quantities of all petroleum products. She noted that the Serbian government has developed scenarios for fuel supply to the market.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Marko Djuric, who is a member of the energy stability team, said today on public broadcaster RTS that energy supplies are guaranteed. However, he said, negotiations concerning NIS are still ongoing.

“Serbia is well-prepared and is acting honestly and transparently. We continue to inform the public in a transparent manner. We are expecting information about new agreements. The silence is difficult, and the talks are taking place at a sensitive geopolitical moment,” Djuric said.

“Our interest is for NIS to continue functioning,” the Serbian foreign minister added, noting that the goal of the United States is to separate Europe from Russia in terms of energy.
