site.btaSeptember Turnover in Retail Trade Up 0.8% M/M, 5.7% Y/Y
Retail trade turnover, excluding sales of motor vehicles and motorcycles, registered an increase in September, by 0.8% compared to August 2025 and by 5.7% compared to September 2024, according to preliminary data released by the National Statistical Institute (NSI) on Thursday.
In September 2025 compared to a month earlier, an increase was observed in the retail sale of non-food products, excluding automotive fuel and lubricants (1.8%), and of food, beverages, and tobacco (0.8%). A drop was registered in the sale of automotive fuel and lubricants, by 0.4%.
Within the non-food category, a month-on-month rise was observed in: dispensing chemist; retail sale of medical and orthopaedic goods, cosmetic and toilet articles (4.9%); retail sales of computers, peripheral units and software; telecommunications equipment (3.1%); retail sale of audio and video equipment; hardware, paints and glass; electrical household appliances (1.2%); retail sale via mail order houses or via Internet (0.5%). A decrease was registered only in the retail sales of textiles, clothing, and footwear and leather goods, by 0.4%.
In September 2025 compared to the same month of 2024, turnover went up in the retail sale of non-food products, excluding automotive fuel and lubricants (10.6%), of automotive fuel and lubricants (4.2%), and of food, beverages, and tobacco (0.3%).
Within the non-food category, an year-on-year rise was observed in all sub-categories, the biggest one registered in the retail sale of computer and communication equipment, by 16.2%.
