May 23 (BTA) - Bulgarian Transport, Information Technology and Communications Minister Rossen Jeliazkov said that the basic quota of ECMT/CEMT permits for Bulgarian road hauliers should be increased by 25 per cent. Jeliazkov made the demand at the Informal Meeting of Ministers in Charge of Transport of the BSEC Member States held in Leipzig, his Ministry said in a press release Thursday.
Jeliazkov argued that the increase of the permits for trucks in the Euro 5 and 6 categories will ensure the gradual advance to a more sustainable and effective road carriage system in Europe.
The Bulgarian Transport Minister said that given the latest geo-political events in Europe, Brexit, the likely consequences from the so-called Mobility 1 package, and the fact that some ECMT member states are looking for new markets, the ECMT/CEMT quota may prove a real and practical instrument for opening new opportunities for the international road haulage market.
Jeliazkov said that Bulgaria supports the removal of all territorial and administrative obstacles in using the ECMT/CEMT permits.
