All scheduled shooting drills at the Batmish Firing Range near Sliven have been canceled from August 1 to 31 due to the high wildfire risk, Sliven Municipality said on Thursday.
The decision followed an order by the Bulgarian Land Forces commander and applies to all planned shooting exercises at the training centre, including those conducted by military units and other government institutions. The same restrictions were introduced in August 2025.
Military Unit 22220 urged the public to follow fire safety measures and act responsibly during the ongoing heatwave and elevated fire danger.
According to the regional fire service, the number of fires in Sliven Region has fallen by about 25% compared with the same period in 2025.
