Twenty high-clearance vehicles will strengthen the work of the state authorities responsible for protecting the Bulgarian areas within the EU's Natura 2000 ecological network. Manol Genov, Minister of Environment and Water in the outgoing government, received a symbolic key for the vehicles after they were blessed during a traditional ritual.
The vehicles were purchased under a project co-financed by the EU through the European Regional Development Fund under Priority 3: Biodiversity, of the Environment Programme 2021–2027.
Genov said the control work and the protection of nature must be primarily the responsibility of the state. He underlined that preserving local biodiversity and combating invasive species are also part of the project’s activities. With the implementation of the project, the effective management of Natura 2000 sites will be supported through material and technical provision for the authority managing the protected areas at national level and for the management bodies at regional level, the Environment Ministry added.
Representatives of the responsible ministry and of the company contracted to supply the vehicles wished safe use and successful operation of the vehicles for the purposes of the state institutions protecting Natura 2000.
