Bulgarian Krasimira Vasileva won fourth place in the balcony and terrace competition (Balcon-Terrassen Wettbewerb) in Linz, Austria, the Bulgarian health and culture website in Austria Sanus Et Salvus reported. She competed against 50 participants, with the jury of experienced gardeners, florists, and floral designers, led by popular TV journalist and host Karl Ploberger, the publication noted.

Vasileva described herself as “a dreamer with a great love for flowers and the magic of balconies and terraces. My small floral paradise earned me an award in the Linz competition, and every flower teaches me to care with love and a smile.”

She shared that she has been gardening for three years and is gradually deepening her knowledge and passion for landscaping and terrace design. She learned about the contest online and through local gardening circles. Though initially hesitant to enter, she says the experience turned out to be incredibly inspiring. For her, the competition was not just a contest but a celebration of beauty, inspiration, and love for nature. Winning fourth place brought her immense joy and motivated her to keep improving.

According to Vasileva, Austrians are exceptional gardeners who value not only beauty but also sustainability and environmentally-friendly landscaping.

Some of the current trends in balcony and terrace gardening include combining flowers and herbs, choosing low-maintenance, sustainable plants, and creating natural colour combinations.

Vasileva plans to participate in the competition again next year, hoping to take first place. She advises urban gardening enthusiasts to love their plants, experiment with colours and textures, and not be afraid to try new combinations. Even a small colourful corner, she says, can bring great joy and comfort.
