The Mitkovi Duo from Italy will perform a Shopsko dance at the 11th Expats Join Hands in Worldwide Dance travelling festival, to be held in Munich from May 15 to 17.

The choreography, created by Detelina Krachunovska, tells the playful story of a young man trying to steal a girl's handkerchief, the performers' mother Andriana Mitkova told BTA.

The duo consists of brother and sister Martin and Nikol, aged 10 and 7, who live and study in Italy but actively preserve Bulgarian traditions and folklore.

Mitkova said the children have been preparing for the performance since October and have already appeared on stages in Bulgaria, Italy and Palma de Mallorca.

They first took part in the 10th Expats Join Hands in Worldwide Dance travelling festival in 2025 in Lyon.

The travelling festival Expats Join Hands in Worldwide Dance is organized by and for amateur folklore ensembles performing outside Bulgaria. The initiative was launched by the Ot Izvora group in Lyon, France, which hosted both the first edition in 2015 and the tenth edition in 2025. More than 100 dance ensembles and over 4,000 guests are expected at the 11th edition in Munich in May. The Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) is the official media partner of the event and will present all participants.
